A curious and helpful soul at heart, Yoh is always eager to do some good in the world. But despite hailing from Noita, Yoh doesn't necessarily see eye to eye with everyone's belief in karma. In fact, Yoh is more interested in the outside world and foreigners more than his fellow village folk would like. Being the fourth son of six children, ever since Yoh grew older, he would always strive to standout from his siblings and always the first to jump out and show everyone what he's made of. Although this isn't to say, despite his good intentions, Yoh always does a stellar job. In a handful of situations, Yoh ends up being incredibly reckless or dense to his surroundings when he hyper focuses on getting a task done, call it having a one track mind even. This, of course, leads to a variety of accidents and Yoh is typically someone who will always need someone supervising him. Because of this, Yoh can be a bit self-conscious about his own self-worth when he gets time alone to himself. But despite that, Yoh typically keeps an optimistic disposition. Because he's never really had much to begin with, Yoh is quite the sentimental sort, grateful and always giving thanks so long as actions aren't done out of pity. And despite how curious he is to know about foreign things, due to growing up in a rather traditional and strict environment, Yoh can vary from prude to ignorant depending on the level of culture shock but always tries to leave an open mind and wrap his head around things he doesn't quite understand. Yoh can be patient but of course, when his patience runs dry, he's the sort to prefer diving in head first to get the job done himself rather than sitting around and playing the waiting game.

Yoh was born into a rather large family in the quaint village of Noita. Unfortunately, the Lo family is regarded as 'cursed' to many villagers and has been for several generations for whatever reason and poor decision making one of Yoh's ancestors brought upon the family, they were the prime example of how bad karma can even screw over your family for generations to come. Despite what little they had in comparison to other villagers, his family lived quite humbly and never once did Yoh ever think of himself as poor or any less fortunate than others.
During his youth, Yoh grew up a rather reserved child, always latching onto either his parents or older siblings. But as he grew older he yearned to stand out amongst his siblings, always throwing a fit when his parents would mix up or garble up his name with his brothers and sisters. He was always rather uncomfortable being scrutinized or pitied by village elders for coming from an unlucky bloodline and with age sprouted the defiant thought of 'why should the actions someone you've never met before define who you are?' And from yearning to stand out, Yoh eventually pined to break out from the mold and show everyone what he's capable of.
Yoh's eldest siblings and parents were employed in humble fields and making earnest enough livings to get by and with no proper guidance, Yoh figured he'd give these fields a shot to see what he was best at. From carpentering, construction work, fishing, jeweling, and farming, Yoh turned out to be a bit of a less than a jack of all trades, master of especially none for his knack of overestimating his abilities and the need to show everyone what he's made of. His over-enthusiasm has led to a variety of mishaps even on the most simplest of tasks. Despite all this, Yoh still tried to remain positive even under the constant supervision his family tacked down on him, still positive that there was something that he could do and that he wasn't just a screw up.
Yoh had heard talk of the World Tree here and there from elders, especially since the village's beliefs were strongly tied to nature. At first, he let it all blow past him. If the world was going to end, Yoh figured it would most likely be after he's dead and long gone. But on second thought, what if this was a higher call to do something great? What if he could actually be a hero and save the world? That would put and end to people thinking he was useless!
But all he got were scoffs and laughs from his own family when he'd ramble on about going on a quest to save the world tree. Of course he would, only childish dreamers would speak of such things so boldly. And Yoh too knew that it was well near impossible for someone like him to make a change. Just once, he thought. Just once, he would've liked to had at least someone humor his silly aspirations. Then came a day a particular crew of travelers stopped by the village. It isn't something all too extraordinary to get foreigners from time to time, of course the elders would make a bit of a fuss amongst themselves but by this time, Yoh was itching to finally do something big and venture out past the waters of his village. Itching and desperate enough to confront the captain of the crew and basically beg to join.
Desperate enough to even swab the poop deck but hey, he was pretty sure it'd be rewarding in the end one way or another. Yoh then left home late that night without word.
And thus, Yoh's quest to save the World Tree begins with a mop and a bucket.
